FOGA 1.8 A bunch of tweaks!


General changes

  • Claiming squares - On the transition screen, instead of each icon disappearing when a player wins that game, the icon is changed to either a player 1 or player 2. To show how many games each player has won.
  • Default random selection - The default has been changed to random level select. It’s still possible to have the version when players influence which round to player, it’s possible to turn it on from the settings menu, 
  • Snake faster movement - The movement speed on the snake has been increased. From 0.25s, to 0.2s, aka ~20% faster
  • UFO - On the “ship vs ship with a ball” game, there’s now a random spawning fast moving UFOs that that scroll over the screen. Its speed is reduced every time no player hits it. And its speed is increased every time it’s destroyed.
  • Serve the ball from the middle - In the “snake vs pong” game, when the ball scores on the snake side. Instead of spawning the ball on the snake side, spawn it in the middle of the screen. To prevent the ball from getting stuck behind the snake and scoring an extra goal “for free”.
  • Game timer changed to 60s - There’s a hidden game timer for each game which gives score every 3s if that game lasts for more than 45s. The timer was changed to 60s, to reduce the time it’s activated.
  • Improved snake pathfinding - The pathfinding has been improved.

Minor Tweaks

  • More mushrooms - More mushrooms are spawned in the snake level. From 1-2 to 4-10. 
  • Invader speed up - The invaders increase in speed depending on the number of invaders left.
  • Bullets destroy bullets - if two bullets collide they will be destroyed.
  • dots -> fruits - The snake vs pong level used to have dots as pickups. It’s now replaced with fruits instead. 
  • Even laser spawns - The laser is spawned more evenly compared to earlier
  • Moved goal - The goal on the paddle level has been moved back a bit, so it’s clear that the ball is outside the screen. There’s now also more time to hit the ball with the edge of the paddle.
  • Less points from fruits - The snake gains less points when eating fruit on the pong stage, since its movement speed increases. From 1 score to 0.5. 
  • Less snake length from invaders - The snake also gains less length on the space stage, from 3 per invader to 1 per invader. 
  • Slowdown snake flashes - If a snake runs into a mushroom, the snake flashes while the slowdown effect is active.
  • Invader reduced vertical movement - The invader’s vertical movement is change from 32 to 16 pixels per step.
  • Ball attached to ship - On the “ship vs ship with a ball” level, when the ball spawns, it spawns  attached to the ship in the same way as the paddle. 
  • Charging invader - When an invader is charging the laser, the invader becomes bigger give x2 score if you destroy it before it's done firing the laser.  
  • Black line for laser signaling - There’s now a black line around the laser signaling effect, to make it stand out from the other invaders.  
  • Fewer laser shots with few invaders - The minimum time for the laser was 0.5s, but is now changed to 1.5s, with the minimum number of invaders on screen.
  • Invader collision - Some of the invaders had strange collision which is now improved. 
  • No score from hitting bricks - In the “snake vs pong” game destroying bricks with the ball would grant score to the paddle player. That score is now removed. And the snake dot score is also reduced from 0.5 to 0.33, to accommodate the score difference.  
  • Ball scoring sound - The sound when a ball scores a goal has been improved. 

Bugs

  • Joystick support on gamepad - It’s now possible to use the joystick on a gamepad to control the movement, along with the d-pad!
  • No ball respawn - in the “Ship vs ships with a ball” level, if a player was dead at the same time as they missed a ball, the ball wouldn’t respawn. It is now fixed!
  • Stop the laser sound - If you would destroy an invader that was about to fire a laser, the laser sound would still play even if no laser appeared. It's now fixed! 
  • No ball respawn - In the “paddle vs paddle x2 balls” game, if both balls scored the same goal at the same time, only one ball would respawn. It is now fixed!
  • Demo mode double select - There was a bug when two games would be selected at the same time in demo mode.
  • Ball bouncing on the goal - Sometimes the ball would bounces on the screen edge which should score a goal. The screen edge was moved so there’s no risk that the ball never overlaps the goal.
